When chocolate is melted, pour over the top and sprinkle with nuts. Leave over night and it will be read for eating the next day! (Use the kind w/ the top that zips shut) Add 4-6 drops of food coloring. Zip closed & let kids shake/mix it until the sugar turns colored. (It doesn't take much shaking & even the "mixed" colors like orange, purple (1 drop red to four blue) & aqua come out nicely.) We made the kid's favorite colors & to decorated the top of iced cookies. Beat butter until creamy. 2. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. 3. Add flour slowly and mix. 4. Add chopped nuts and mix. 5 Bake on greased cookie sheet for 12-15 minutes at 350. Contact_FullName: Gidget Contact_Email: Ondago39@aol.com Area: Christmas Snacks-Candy cane ice cream Idea: You need an 8oz. clear plastic cup,1 quart of vanilla ice cream and 1 quart of strawberry ice cream and peppermint extract. Mix the extract in the vanilla ice cream. Then make layers of vanilla-strawberry, vanilla-strawberry until you reach the top. This is a candy cane treat. My kids love it and it helps them learn to pattern. Contact_FullName: Gale Contact_Email: gliebert@aol.com date:: 11/9/01 Area: Snacks Idea: Candy Christmas Trees: Take a gold-wrapped Rolo candy, wide side down, and put a dab of cool-melt glue on top. Place an inverted Christmas-colored mini peanut butter cup on top. Again, a dab of low-temp glue. Top this with a Hershey's Kiss wrapped in the same color foil as the peanut butter cup. Cut off most of the paper tag, and on the little stub, place two gold foil stars back to back, being careful to line up the points. You can make taller trees by adding a second peanut butter cup, but they look just as cute with one and are more economical.
2-8-01For a Christmas treat, we gave each child a sugar cone turned upside down on a paper plate. Each child brought a topping to school to share. They iced the cones with green icing and sprinkled the toppings on the cone. They then ate their "edible Christmas trees".

You take a waffle cone and turn it upside down. Then let the children "paint" green icing on their cones. After they have painted the icing on, let them decorate with candies (mini M&M's work GREAT!). When the are through they will have their own Christmas Tree complete all the ornaments to enjoy by EATING! I have fours, and they loved this project!

Use small twisted pretzels for antlers, 2 chocolate chips for eyes and a red M&M Crisp candy for his red nose. Bake them and enjoy!
1-15-01Santa Cookies Cut heart-shaped cookies out of sugar cookie dough and bake. Take them out of the oven and turn the cookies upside down. Decorate the point with red to make a Santa hat, and the bottom of the heart with white frosting to make Santa's cheeks and beard. Sprinkle coconut on the bottom to make the beard life like, and decorate eyes and nose and mouth with chocolate chips, M&M's and licorice pieces. They really look like Santa's, and the kids have fun making them!
9-30-00Snowman cookies graham cracker crumbs (about 10 whole crackers) peanut butter (18ou) 2-1/4 cups powdered sugar 1 stick margarine white chocolate (several bags of chips) Mix graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar, margarine and peanut butter. Roll into balls. Stick into freezer for a few minutes to chill. Melt white chocolate chips. Stick a toothpick into the chilled dough and dip each cookie into the white chocolate. Stack 3 balls on top of each other to form a snowman. Use sprinkles/candy for eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons.
9-17-00Sugar Plums: Around Christmas we often read " Twas The Night Before Christmas", or listen to the "Dance of the Sugar Plumb Fairies." But how many of us have ever have had a sugar plum? Try something new this year: make sugar plums. You will need: Powdered Sugar 2 egg whites, beaten Dried prunes Beat egg whites till they are fluffy and white. Dip prune into egg white. Wait for drips to stop, then dip prune in powdered sugar. Place on paper towel to dry. (Kids love to see egg whites turn fluffy :) let them do the beating). 6-15-00When I was in high school, I did this with my teacher and our pre-school class, it was so fun! Gingerbread Houses You need per child: A small sq. of cardboard and a lunch size milk carton. For them to share: white frosting with decorator bags and tips (frosting must be stiff), white coconut (flake), graham crackers, gum drops, licorice, m&m minis, any other fun candies! First, fill you bags w/frosting. Glue your milk carton, bottom on cardboard, with frosting. Then, glue on all sides of house with graham crackers and frosting to milk carton. Add two grahams at the top, angled, for a roof, and glue with frosting. Then let the kids have fun! They can use the frosting to glue candies on their house or card board to make a scene! If you want, this works well with a fairy tale unit, just after the story Hansel and Gretel. Or you can make a winter house, and add mini or jumbo marshmallows for snowmen, and pretzel sticks for arms. Best of all, the whole thing is edible! Or, the kids can display their gingerbread houses at Christmas like a tradition! Date: 2-25-00Ornaments 1.cresent roll in a can (Pillsbury works best) 2.cream cheese/ sour cream mixed 3.broccoli pieces 4.cauliflower pieces 5.carrot slivers 6.red pepper pieces (for red color....some kids wont like it) Take out the crescent roll dough and cut ornament shapes. Cook the dough until light brown. Add the cheese mixture and top with vegetable pieces. Date: 12-15-99First bake sugar cookies for almost double the amount of kids you have. Then take red and green food coloring and color two containers of frosting. then let the children smear the frosting with Popsicle sticks. then they decorate with sprinkles. Happy eating!! jennifer ideaTo Make Christmas Wreaths: Use Dunkin donut honey dipped donuts, vanilla frosting tinted green with food coloring, m&ms as decoration, and Twizzler whips to make the bow. Frost the top of the donut and then add the decorations. Date: 12-2-99ideatake any Christmas cookie cutter we use Christmas trees or Santa and cut out two pieces of bread and then two pieces of bologna (or any other lunch meat) and make cookie sandwiches. it's a good idea if you have a party to use many different cookie cutters . Date: 11-18-99Date: 12-15-98Corn Flake Wreaths ½ C. reduced fat margarine 1 package (10oz, about 40) regular marshmallows 1 tsp. green food coloring 6 C. corn flake cereal red cinnamon candies or m&m's vegetable cooking spray In large saucepan, melt margarine over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat and stir in food coloring. Add cereal and stir until well coated. Using ¼ cup dry measure coated with cooking spray, evenly portion warm cereal mixture. Using buttered fingers, shape into individual wreaths quickly. Dot with cinnamon candies. Yield: 16 wreaths Microwave directions: Microwave margarine and marshmallows on high until melted, stir to combine. Add food coloring and follow above steps. Date: 12-1-98Place a pineapple ring on each child's plate. Cut bananas in half and let each child peel his banana and place standing up in pineapple ring. Give each child a maraschino cherry and a toothpick to put on top of banana. You can put a raisin on top too. Now everyone has a Christmas candle. The student will spread cream cheese on the popcorn cake to make it white. Use plastic knives and soften the cream cheese. Use raisins to make the eyes, nose and mouth. Use raisins to make three buttons on the Snowman's tummy. Eat and enjoy. This activity will give you a good idea if the children understand the parts of their face. Name: ginny E-Mail: Msginnyedu@aol.com Christmas Trees Give each child an ice cream cone, paper plate, plastic knife or tongue depressor, green icing, colored mini marshmallow and/or fruti loops, red licorice whips...baby wipe. Put a small glob of icing in the middle of the plate, stick the cone upside down in it, then let the kids ice their "tree". After icing it they may decorate it as they wish. This year we are using colored mini marshmallows for the "balls" and red licorice whips for the garland and putting a marshmallow star on the top. You can use M&M's, Fruit Loops or whatever variety decoration you wish. The children really enjoy the icing and decorating. Cut bread in half to make two triangles. Mix peanut butter and honey together and spread on one half of bread, then add top bread for sandwich. Add a cherry half for the nose, pretzels for antlers, and chocolate chips for eyes.
