Homemade Crayons

8-27-00When making "homemade crayons", using those seemingly endless broken pieces, my sister in law and I use plastic candy or sucker molds found in the craft section of most any store. The kids can pick out their favorite characters such as Blue's Clue's , Winnie the Pooh and many others. The crayons can be melted in the oven or microwave in a glass measuring cup. This makes it even easier to pour into the molds. A spoon can be used for this also. I've also discovered that if you have the patience for it, you can "paint" in the details with a fine brush just as you would to make candies. Then fill in the rest of the form with your main color. Even my older kids were impressed with our new character crayons! 10-21-98 Name: Lynn Hoseney 7-30-98 Name: Jean E-Mail: mjg74@dfsi.net Chunk Crayons: I also make chunk crayons like Daylene describes in her idea posted before mine. However, I put a kitchen-size Dixie paper cup in the muffin pan then put the broken crayons in the cup. Put in the oven for just a few minutes with the temp. very low. Take them out, let them cool, and then just peel the paper cup away. This way, you save your muffin pans from the crayons. Chunk crayons are great for making rubbings with. Submitted By: Daylene

Put 5-10 different colors in each muffin space 3. Place the muffin tins in the oven until the crayons melt 4. Let the new crayons cool overnight 5. E-Mail: aactchrday@aol.com Activity: Soap Crayons Materials 7/8 cups of Ivory Snow powdered detergent 1/8 cups of water Wilton's Cake Food Coloring Ice cube tray Procedure 1. Add the food coloring to the water to make VIVID colors 2. Add the colored water to the Ivory Snow and mix well 3. Press the mixture into the compartments of an ice cube tray 4. Let the mixture set for a couple of days then remove the crayons |
